VIDEO REPORT

I have taken my jolly time getting to this mission. It feels wrong to only play the winner of The Dark Project 20th Anniversary Contest more than 6 years later. However, better late than never. This is an excellent start to the two-mission campaign by Tannar and Pukey Brunster. Visit the Wychwood forest village and help your friend Wendolyn get rid of her nasty competitor Lash. And learn about the mystery surrounding Blackwell Hotel, our destination in mission 2.

I had to meet my contact Wendolyn at the local inn to receive further instructions. I was also encouraged to obtain three lost jade idols in the nearby woods. Many more directions would be given later.

Getting the jade idol above the water fall could be done by using four moss arrows. Although this wasn’t against the Supreme rules, as it is considered a puzzle, I avoided using any consumables by jumping from atop the southern stone (left image below). I timed the firefly swarm and grabbed the idol in the air. I had to halfway land on the northern stone in order to avoid taking damage.

In town I met with Wend right away. She gave me new objectives, including finding some leverage against the new player in town, Lash. I also had to find a map of the hotel, along with 1,500 in loot. I was going to leave the inn underground, but the gate down there wasn’t necessary to pick open. Brought along the jumper switch though. Instead I entered the underground from Miller’s basement in the north. Entering his house didn’t require picking any lock.

Reaching the millhouse required using the haunted tunnels. The only way in there was passing through the barricaded opening to the mining tunnels. I tried squeezing through the mining cart and planks, but I think the authors made it an entire solid wall. I couldn’t mantle anything, even if I stacked items to get higher. It makes sense they went to lengths to prevent anyone getting through. I also tried getting into the millhouse from the front, but all the windows were way too small, and there was no other way in. I ended up having to use the power switch and blow up the entrance (right image above). A solid case of property damage and thus an inevitable Ghost bust. There was no way around obtaining the map objective either.

Back in town a few pieces of loot outside Lash’s were tricky. First, the purse inside the window to the south (left image below). I didn’t find a good way to attach a rope arrow except for the wooden frame a few feet below. I couldn’t grab the purse from atop the rope unless I tried to mantle the window. The opening was too small to get through, but at the peak of the mantle I could still reach the loot and drop back down onto the rope. This area was dark, despite the nearby candle.

The purse on the stationary thief I had to take coming from the west (right image above). I don’t think I ever heard him give any first alerts; not sure why really. I had to get out of there quickly, as the other thief didn’t stay put for long.

I didn’t end up poisoning Lash with the Essence of Oblivion. It gave me a bonus notification, but it wasn’t a true objective, plus hidden objectives don’t explicitly tell you to perform a task until after you have completed it. Granted, I didn’t end up killing Lash and no damage showed up in the stats. However, it felt like too invasive of a move for Ghost to be allowed, let alone Supreme. Damage comes in many forms, and lobotomy neither sounded nor looked very pleasant (left image below).

-        Had to blow up the entrance to the haunted tunnels in order to reach the millhouse. Property damage and thus a Ghost bust.

-        I did not complete the bonus objective of lobotomizing Lash. It felt too violent and damaging to complete.
