ELEVATOR MISSION T2 Mission 1 - Beginning Is Always Night A
follow-up campaign to JIS’ 2000 release for Thief 1 by the same name. This
first mission is very short, without loot, and merely sets up the location
for mission 2. Nothing much else to say about it really. I
had to find out what a local organization was up to. All this really meant
was getting to the end point in the mission, an elevator in a different part
of the city. No
loot existed, and barely anything to pick up. There was a necessary key on a
noblewoman in a balcony apartment quite close to the underground access point
to the other part of town. In order to get to her balcony without getting
spotted by the nearby female guard, I had to use one of the large barrels in
the nearby courtyard. The small barrel close by wasn’t big enough. Barrels
can’t be picked up, so I had to bump into it and lead it to the right
location. I had to mantle the leftmost corner of the balcony, but not so far
over that the guard alerted (left image below). After a few tries, I got up
there unseen. The woman still heard me opening the door though, so Supreme
got busted. I had to lean around the door to the left in order to take her
key without a Ghost bust. Dropped back to the barrel and pushed it back
afterwards.
To
get to the double doors behind said guard, I mantled over the big wall from
the adjacent courtyard (right image above). This was the only way to get in
behind her and avoid the male tenant below the balcony lady. The gravel all
around town was loud, so I had to tread carefully pretty much everywhere. I
had to open the right door to avoid her commenting. Down below was a bat
flying around. It clearly reacted to me, though I’m not sure if it would bust
ghost modes. I managed to avoid it by staying behind hardcover. I could lock
up the gate, but couldn’t return the key. Another Supreme bust. In
the next section of town, I just had to get to the tower with the elevator. I
could sneak by in the red courtyard with the guard and the torch, but not
without a first alert. The better way was to mantle over the portcullis by
the pivoting guard close to where I emerged (left image below). I didn’t have
enough headspace when mantling onto it, so I couldn’t crouch and thus drop
quietly on the other side. I had to move back and forth on top of the
portcullis to get a proper foothold, but not so that I made noise. Eventually
I was able to crouch and could reach the elevator safely.
